What is Yellow Fever?

Yellow Fever is a disease that can cause several illnesses including fever that has pains and aches, yellowing skin and severe liver disease and bleeding. This disease is spread virally by an infected mosquito. Unfortunately, there is no known medicine to treat and cure the infection after you have received it.

How to Prevent Yellow Fever?

You can help protect yourself from Yellow Fever in several ways:

  • One definite way is getting vaccinated. It has been available for over 80 years. Getting the vaccine may also be required for traveling to several countries as well. Our office has the Yellow Fever vaccination available and ready for you! Contact Dr. Peshimam for more information by clicking here.
  • Another way to protect yourself from Yellow Fever is by using insect repellent. Remember, the Yellow Fever virus is spread through infected mosquitos, so you’ll want to make sure you do not get bit by a mosquito. You can make sure to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants in mosquito-infested areas.
  • Finally, make sure your home is well protected from mosquitos. Check out your windows to make sure everything is fixed and not damaged to let lingering mosquitos come inside for instance!
